The Tryon Downtown Development Association’s StreetScape Master Plan is the guiding template for all architectural and infrastructure improvements in Tryon’s historic Central Business District (CBD). Developed in collaboration with the award-winning East Coast design firm Milone MacBroom, the StreetScape Master Plan embodies our organization’s design goals. Supplemental revisions to and expansions of the Master Plan have been provided by the design personnel of the nationally-recognized landscape architecture firm Innocenti and Webel and the North Carolina Small Town Main Street program.
To date, implemented phase elements of the StreetScape Master Plan include:
- burying overhead utility lines,
- erecting new lighting systems, and
- installing new sidewalks with curb & gutter from Palmer to School Streets.
Smaller, sponsored projects to promote architectural improvements in the downtown corridor include our Façade Grant program, which provides professional design advice and up to $2,000 in matching grants to eligible building owners in the CBD for a range of façade upgrades. Funds for these projects come principally from local, state & federal grant opportunities and private- & public-sector investment.
Our organization relies heavily upon volunteerism, and citizen input is important to us. Join us at our next design charrette, and let your voice be counted as we move forward to re-vision Tryon’s historic downtown.
